Baljinder Heer BSc MSc RPHNutr

Baljinder Heer is a registered Public Health Nutritionist with the British Nutrition Society and a Fellow of The Royal Institute of Public Health. She has over eight years working experience within the field of Public Health, in both a research and practice capacity. During this time she has worked across the health economy (NHS, academic, charitable foundation and voluntary and community sectors) and has built up extensive expertise in generating evidence through research, evaluation of community-based interventions, and policy analysis and development in order to make an integrated approach to health and tackling health inequalities.

Baljinder is currently working for an international aid agency, Action Against Hunger, looking at child malnutrition in Africa.  Previously, Baljinder worked at the King’s Fund researching the links between poverty, disadvantage and health in the UK and used the findings to influence and inform national and local health policy. She has held academic and research posts at the Institute of Brain Chemistry & Human Nutrition, Aberdeen Maternity Hospital, Newham General Hospital and the University of North London.

Baljinder is also a freelance Nutrition Consultant and has strong links with community based health promotion projects and speaks at community seminars on healthy eating/nutrition and holds nutrition ‘surgeries’ in some of London’s poorest boroughs. She has worked with Sure Start programmes in London (a national Government programme to deliver the best start to disadvantaged children under 5) helping them to develop long-term strategies and policies on nutrition.

PLEASE NOTE: At present Baljinder is in Sudan working in malnutrition until Spring/Summer 2007
